AGRIBUSINESS

As Tagum is a predominantly agricultural city, it can be most considered as “AGRI-able” with its myriad openings in the area of agribusiness. It produces various kinds of crops like coconut, rice, sweet corn, and Cavendish banana. The city is one of the players in the Banana export industry of the Philippines.

Apart from fresh produce, Tagum also has Processed Fruits and Vegetables and Tropical Fruit Purees and Juices in its coverage, with Banana Chips, among others, being its chief export.

Concentrates
  • Guyabano (Soursop)
  • Calamansi
  • Mangosteen
  • Carrot
  • Lemon

Juices
  • Calamansi
  • Calamansi mixed with Malunggay (Horse Radish)
  • Calamansi mixed with Taro

One of the city’s best exploits is in the Coconut Industry as coconut plantations dominate its agricultural areas, with products such as Coconut Sugar, Coconut Syrup, Coconut Sugar Based Candies (Cocoa and Ginger Niblets), Coconut Wine, and Coconut Vinegar.

Other processed fruits and vegetables inTagum are: Chili Oil, Durian Delicacies (Tarts, Flavored Bread, Ice Cream).

The Fisheries industry is also a very potent area of investment inTagum. Like most places in the Philippines, it is abundant in Aquaculture. It produces a generous number of species, mostly Crabs, Bangus (Milk Fish), Catfish, Freshwater Shrimp, and Tilapia among others, in its local ponds and fresh, brackish and marine water areas, most prominently in vicinities near the Hijo River, Tagum-Liboganon River and the shorelines of Davao Gulf. In addition, a Fishing Village inTagum is soon to rise which will supplement the city’s agritourism scenario.

Tagum City has a government-owned slaughterhouse processing beef and pork, and also, soon to rise on the last quarter of 2015 or the first quarter of 2016, a AAA Dressing Plant for poultry projected to produce 3,000 units per hour. Better yet, the Hijo port is developing its facilities, growing towards exporting, mostly, agri products, with an estimated traffic of 100 containers per week on its primary expansion.

As the agriculture of the city rapidly develops and extends its reach, the establishment of support facilities (transport and infrastructure), e.g. cold storages, trucking services, food terminals et.al, will be, inexorably, a very favorable area of investment inTagum.
